"Notenbude" was besides "Beatkiste", "Trend" and "DT Metronome" one of the most important and liked shows on the cult-radio station DT 64.

In November 1972 "Notenbude" was founded as a music-show on "Stimme der DDR" and was aired every Tuesday from 19.12 o'clock to 20.30 o'clock.

On the 7. of March 1986 DT 64 and the youth-programme of "Stimme der DDR" united and formed the station "Jugendradio DT 64". In their beginning they aired for 11 hours daily, but later on they had a 24-7-program. Part of the "Jugendradio DT 64" was the "Notenbude", which was a platform for popular music. Besides the shows with national and international releases, from Pop to Hardrock, they had discussion forums and interviews, as well as the monthly "national Top 10". Hosts over the years were Angelika Unterlauf, Alexander Jereczinski and Wolfgang Martin.

This compilation is to fulfill the variety of tracks played on the Notenbude. It combines old and new Rock and Pop-tracks from the former GDR. No doubt "Jugendliebe" by Ute Freudenberg, "Hey, wir woll'n die Eisbär'n seh'n" by the Puhdys, "Verdammt" by Wolfgang Ziegler or Jessica's "Ich beobachte dich" ranking amongst the most successfull songs. The track "Sommer" by Petra Zieger went up No.3 in the "Hey Music-Hit-Charts 2002", right behind Herbert Grönemeier's "Mensch". The Puhdys-Medley, taken from the album "Undercover", which charted six times No.3 of the "Hey Music-Hit-Charts" this year and was taken from the album for the first time for this release. The track "Als ich fortging" by Dirk Michaelis & Karussell was honoured "best love song of the GDR" on the recently broadcasted TV-show "Schulze & Meyer" on SAT 1.

Other tracks appear for the first time ever on sound carrier. For example "Ich hab dich lieb" by Prinzip, "Wir fahren alle einmal ab" by Amor & die Kids, "I need you" by Lotos, "Das passiert in den besten Familien" by Transit and "Engel d'Amour" by Lucie.

The "East Germany-hype" is not a phenomenon depending only on the success of movies like "Sonnenallee" or "Good Bye Lenin". The artists and bands compiled on this release still get a lot of attention from the people in ex-GDR, for the simple reason that this is the music they grew up and lived with, and also because they want to set a mark against the refusal of most radio stations to play this music. The numbers of concerts and spectators of bands like City, Karat, Puhdys, Ute Freudenberg, Veronika Fischer and Gabi Rückert - just to mention a few - prove that people are still fascinated by this music.

The CD Die Notenbude Volume 1 is to fulfill that interest. Other releases will follow because of the countless tracks that are not available on sound carrier yet, as well as tracks of still active artists and bands.
