You may have discovered him, dancing with his orginal Rumba three years ago, on a first smart and lo-fi album, joking with language words, not subscribing to the musical trend. Funny solo singer, surfing nearby the "Nouvelle vague de la Chanson" (as they say…). Pascal Parisot was directing his domestic adventure on light melodies, smelling the sweet perfume of "exotism at home". His acid humour, his voice of distinguished crooner, was evocating illustrious names as Boris Vian or Serge Gainsbourg at his very beginning. With such godfathers - we could also talk about Nino Ferrer or Boby Lapointe - Pascal Parisot had to be ready…and he was, using language as a malicious and amusing weapon. Born and raised in the east of France, breathing the fresh air of Vosges, listening to the family radio, Pascal has built his own culture, from Villa Lobos to the Beatles. Four years learning classical guitar, when he was a teenager, were enough to keep him away from the normal path. Before writing his own songs he used playing other ones, in a piano bar. A 10 years traineeship of ten years, pushing him to put life to the stories he was telling to inattentive audiences. During those times, he discovered Bossa, that would become later a source of inspiration for his own musical garden.
With some friends, as the vibraphonist Jacques Tellitocoli (who'still working with him), Parisot starts writing the songs of his forthcoming first album "Rumba". In the meantime, his one of the very rare artists to sign a major record deal, only sending a tape by the postal service, Sapristi! A second album is always a challenge. Pascal Parisot decided not to go against his own nature. He followed his instinct, working with the same friendly team of his debut : a few inventive musicians, his wife Frédérique Dastrevigne for the backing vocals and the studio wizzards of Mellow (Pierre Begon-Lours & Stéphane Luginbühl). However, a new partner helped to bring new ideas : Nicolas Rejac, producer/handyman, that worked with arthur H., neighbour of Pascal. Using the same computer - that Pascal wasn't even able to turn on a few years ago… - the songwriter and his "musical room mate" elaborated the frame of the 13 new songs. At home, with his original and unique collection of Bontempi organs, his plastic guitar and his kiddy instruments, Parisot developped his musical language, improving (only with pen and paper) the subtlety of his lyrics. As usual, he observes people and things (and also UFO's and rabbits), with the sharpness of a modern Jacques Tati. Once again, Pascal went to the "miraculous draught" of rare rythms, bringing back some exotic swings, perfectly adapted to his strange tone. Sometimes, Wonderful reminds that late 50's monument that was "Calipso is like so" by the great Robert Mitchum. Elsewhere, we think about Jobim, Georges Brassens and obviously about Gainsbourg. A special distinction has to be given to the "Quizas, quizas, quizas…" cover/adaptation ("Que je sache") or to the "Gondoles à Denise", other cover of a french pop hit of the sixties, that Pascal has been playing live for four years, before putting it on a record. Singer & stand up comedian, extra & ordinary , savagely different anyway, Parisot amazes in a very discret way.
